Make Sure . . .You are Ready

This week our church is having revival with Bro. Woody Lee from Calhoun, Georgia preaching each night. We have had some great services. The music has been great. The preaching has been great. Most importantly, God’s presence has been Great.

I am confident that He is pleased with the renewing of our hearts as we have partaken of His Goodness and Power and felt His Holy Spirit moving within each service.

And here is the tie to our youth.

Our phone rang Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m. On the other end, was the mother of a young man in our youth group. He is seven years old with a spirit way beyond his years. He sings quite frequently at church and is a blessing to everyone. She asked if Keith could speak with her son.

A while back, he made a profession of faith and was baptized. As I realized who Keith was talking to, I thought to myself, “I wonder what he’s wanting. He’s saved. Maybe he has questions about something else.” As the conversation progressed, Keith heard from this little guy’s heart.

He told Keith that he had went and prayed before, but didn’t really understand what he was doing. Back then, he was only five and just a kid. After attending the first nights of revival (and even prior to then) he realized something was not right. He fully comprehended he still stood in need of Salvation. So, Wednesday night, after church, he called his dad into his bedroom. He explained his feelings to him and his mother then joined in.

After some conversation, he prayed. He asked Jesus to come into his heart and save him.

And now he knows things are different.

He understands what he is singing about.

He no longer fears dying and going to a sinner’s Hell.

So my question is this –

Are you sure you know where you will spend eternity?

The trials of this life will be over; but will you enter a forever of peace and praise in the presence of God or will you be forever tormented in a devil’s Hell?

Take it from this little guy, just because you join a church, attend faithfully, and sing your songs, all of those things are not good enough to get you to Heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9 states, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.) It's not because of what we do - it's because of what Jesus did.

Keep one thing in mind you don't have to do anything to get to Hell, that's your destination. Thank God, you can change your course by accepting Jesus as your Savior (Romans 10:9-13).

Girls' Lock-In

The girls of Little Prospect Youth had a lock in Saturday. It began at 8:00 a.m. at the church fellowship hall where breakfast was served by the men. We left the church around 9:00 a.m. and proceeded to my house for a little meeting of the minds. (Scary thought.)

Initially, we had talked about going to Chattanooga and hanging out at Coolidge Park. However, I learned last week that there was going to be an event on Saturday. Ok. We'll go somewhere else.

Our second trip option was Chickamauga Battlefield. I then heard the Battle of Chickamauga re-enactment was occurring all weekend. So, I nixed that idea. (I later found out the re-enactment was actually held in LaFayette, not in the actual park. Oh, well, maybe next time.)

That's two places I had chosen falling through, hence, the meeting of the minds. After much discussion, we decided to go to Rock City's Enchanted Corn Maze. Not only was there the maze, but they also had inflatable bouncy things, a hayride, face painting, and a miniature tractor ride for the younger kids. Below is a picture of some of the girls on the hayride:

After the maze, we had lunch, headed to the movie store to pick up a few flicks and ended up at my house again to have a little rest before the evening. During our downtime, some of the girls dyed their hair. All of them are over 18, so I was not responsible (other than buying the dye for 2 of them). Three blondes and 1 brunette entered, and 2 brunettes, 1 red head, and a golden blond exited. I have to say, they all looked fabulous.

After the hair was done, they decided to go outside and drive the golf cart around our field. A few minutes passed and one of the girls came in and said, "They hit your dog gate with the golf cart." Oh, my. Now, with my husband 1 ½ hours away with the boys camping, I have a home improvement project on my hands. So, the girls pitched in and helped me round up some tools and nails. We got some of the gate fixed and called in my father-in-law (also my next door neighbor) to help finish the project. Here's a before shot:

I don't have an after at this point, but I'll tell you, it's not a pretty sight. All in all, we had a great time. After the fence was mended, we ordered pizza and watched the Georgia Bulldogs football game. We cheered and laughed until we hurt.

Isn't that the way our Christian walk is? Our plans change and sometimes we end up in the "maze" of life, not knowing which way to go. Then we remember one crucial step: God guides us, goes before us, and prepares the way. All He asks is that we look to Him, put our faith and trust in Him, and follow Him (Prov. 3:5-6).

When things get a little rough and a 'golf cart' drives through your 'dog gate', remember that He is the great healer and can mend all the broken pieces.

And finally, don't you know that when His children are sitting around, laughing, and enjoying the many 'ball games' of life, He is cheering with us. We are showing the world that no matter what comes our way, He is our joy and peace and comfort and hope and He IS our biggest cheerleader. When we reach those final seconds of the fourth quarter, we can know without a doubt, that He has already made the winning touchdown.
